What is yoga?

Yoga is a system of philosophy that originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. The Sanskrit word yoga is translated as 'union' between mind, body and spirit. In the West, the most widely taught form of yoga is Hatha Yoga with classes offering students exercises to stretch and flex the body, develop breath awareness, relaxation and sometimes meditation. Yoga offers a holistic approach to the wellbeing of body, mind and spirit, providing us with ways to cope with the challenges of daily life. Yoga can also complement medical science and therapy for specific conditions.

We have classes in both Sheppey and Sittingbourne.

Who yoga is ideal for?

Everyone can practice yoga, regardless of age, sex or ability. Pregnant women and those less able-bodied choose yoga because of the low impact on the body and your ability to focus on all the mind and spirit too.

Yoga is great for

relief from a specific physical condition

Yoga improves strength, balance and flexibility. Slow movements and deep breathing increase blood flow and warm up muscles, while holding a pose can build strength.
